Mitsukoshi Contemporary Gallery is pleased to announce “INTERSPECIES,” the second solo exhibition by Ai Makita, opening October 12 and on view through October 24, 2022. Makita creates biomorphic images digitally by processing the photos of industrial products made of metal and plastic in PC, then paints those images physically on canvases in detail by hand with oil painting. Her one and only talent is highly acclaimed internationally, and she currently lives and works in New York City.
Her works stimulate the human perception with the energetic material of engine parts, eroticism of streamlined shapes, reflections of light that make repetition and expansion in a space.
“INTERSPECIES” aims to represent some unknown living things that exist between species and species. That is an experimental space in a way for Makita’s long-term exploration of “boundary” such as natural/artificial, organic/inorganic, 2D/3D by intersecting and connecting different medias.
We hope all to find her latest works include oil painting on canvas, enamel painting merged with digital printing on metal, a conceptual painting with video series in person.
